The Eagle's Back Program
The Eagle's Back program is designed to help children 6-12 learn about Aboriginal culture through traditional teachings, access to dance and drumming.
The Eagle is a powerful symbol of safety and
protection in the First Nations Culture.
Just as an eagle flies under its young to ensure
they do not fall, so does the Eagle's Back
program as it strives to help First Nations
people living in urban settings to feel safer and
more able to participate in the culture of the
community.
The 'Eagle is back' relates to the desire of the
people to reclaim their proud history,
customs, tradition and beliefs that were
significantly forgotten by the boarding school
experience. If the Eagle truly came back as a
powerful symbol known to all their children it
would mean that health had returned to the
nation.
